I was feeling a bit bored and melancholy today. The old me would have found someone to obsess about. I'm am resisting that (and not succeeding 100%, but doing OK).
I decided to be proactive this time. I think obsessing is a creative outlet for me. I'm replacing that. I've finally decided to pursue a creative interest I have been wanting to pursue for a while. Guitar lessons this coming semester =)

Good for you Lotus. I've always wanted to learn to play the guitar. Thinking about it still. I'm more inclinesd to look for ways to exercise right now but taking up the guitar is on my wish list too. G

Lotus,
It sounds like a great idea. Do already own a guitar? Have you played before?
It might be a good idea to decide where you want the lessons to take you. Is your goal to pluck out a classical rendition of Greensleeves? Or strum the guitar while you sing? Or buy some multitrack recording software for your computer and record a song?
I have several guitars. Each one has its own sound and personality. The instrument that you are playing will make a difference in how you feel. Some guitars good out of tune when you press down the strings. Finding a good guitar will make all the difference.

Thanks for your help, Rilly. I admit that I haven't thought much about where I'm going. My husband has a classical guitar (he is a beginner that lost interest), and his dad (a seasoned musician) gave me his old acoustic. I'm going to have to choose between the two since I don't have the money to buy a guitar right now. The classical guitar is a bit big for me, but the acoustic has metal strings, which scares me.
I kind of want to do both -- strum and sing, and also play more complicated classical or metal music
I'm not sure of the focus of this class I'm taking. It's at a community college, so I'm guessing classical, since the other classes are for orchestra instruments. The class is free for me since I qualify for a tuition waiver, so that's why I'm going this route; I can't afford private lessons right now.
The adventure is in seeing where this goes, I suppose. It may go nowhere, but it may go in a direction I never even imagined.
